APW News: Minutes
Arkansas Press Women met Saturday, Oct. 20, at 3:55 p.m. in Seminar Room A of the Donald Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development, on the University of Arkansas campus, Fayetteville with President Jennifer Fulford presiding. The attached treasurer's report was submitted. In brief, APW has approximately $60 less than it did have. But, the silent auction conducted at the October conference will make up for the $60 shortfall. NEW BUSINESS: Spring Awards Luncheon -- New member Malea Hargett suggested the John Conference Center in the Heights. Those present agreed. The exact date would be determined by the availability of the facility. Communications Contest -- The Communications Contest for 2002 will be a committee effort. Communications contest co-chairs Debbie Miller and Leeanna Walker requested a respite from contest co-chairmanship duties. They volunteered to help but thought that more than a committee of two is needed. Miller said that she had received a request from North Dakota to exchange contest entries. And, depending upon the number of entries a much larger committee would be needed to judge that state's entries. Elizabeth Childs agreed to serve as contest co-chair with Miller or chair, with Miller as consultant, if a committee of five or six would help. Helen Plotkin volunteered to provide a location for a "contest work day" when APW members will gather to judge North Dakota entries. Childs said that APW entries could be sent to her at 8 Bradford Court, Little Rock, AR 72227. Reiner volunteered to put names on the winners' certificates. Debbie Miller volunteered to continue to handle the contest publicity (news releases) especially announcing the winners and to serve as a consultant on presentation (slide show) of winners at the Awards Luncheon. Communicator of Achievement -- Pearl Serbus will be APWs Communicator of Achievement nominee in 2002. Carol Sanders Reiner and Anale Yarbrough will continue as CofA co-chairman and prepare Pearl's nomination. High School Contest -- Vivian Lawson Hogue resigned as high school contest chairman. Michelle Parks agreed to take over the contest reins from Hogue. Helen Plotkin agreed to help Parks, since Plotkin has served as contest director. Certificates of Recognition -- Trina Holman will handle the certificates of recognition. Presentation of membership recognition will be a part of the Awards Luncheon in the spring. Respectfully submitted, |
