In Contentio Veritas2004 Awards Luncheon & Scholarship Benefit

In
Contentio
(Latin: exertion of the powers of mind or body, effort, a vigorous struggling or striving for something)
(there is)
Veritas (Latin: truth)

If truth is found in striving, professional recognition and warm personal connections will be revealed on June 26 as press women and men from across the state gather for Arkansas Press Women's 2004 Awards Luncheon in Little Rock.

Reservation deadline: June 17. Click here for a ticket order form.

Schedule for Saturday, June 26:
APW board meeting: 10 a.m.
Registration desk opens: 11 a.m.
"Happy Half Hour" reception and wine tasting: around 11:15 a.m.
Luncheon and program: Noon

Communications contest winners will be announced at the luncheon, with special focus on recognizing each individual contestant. Student winners of the APW high school journalism contest and APW's scholarship recipient for 2004-2005 will also be introduced. Proceeds from the luncheon help support the APW scholarship program.

The registration desk opens for the luncheon at 11 a.m. A "Happy Half Hour" reception, which proved to be such a hit last year, starts shortly afterward. Happy Half Hostess Tonya Oaks Smith will serve appetizers and help expand your circle of APW acquaintances. The APW board of directors will also meet that morning, at 10 a.m., and all members are welcome to attend the board meeting.

Wine corkLunch will be served at noon and the awards program follows. Chairman Trina Holman of Arkansas Press Services has planned an Italian menu, which will also feature an outstanding Arkansas wine provided by Post Familie Vineyards and be followed by a dessert bar.

All members are encouraged to bring a door prize donation, large or small, representing their town, area or organization. (Here’s your chance to show off!) Every ticket holder will be entered for door prize drawings, including some extra nice treats being lined up.

Mark your calendar for June 26Tickets are $18 per person, and guests are welcome. Tickets must be ordered in advance, and the deadline to receive orders is June 17. Tickets will be held at the door for pickup at the registration table June 26. An order form is available here for you to print from your web browser and mail in.

The event will again be held in the dining hall on the campus of St. John Catholic Center at 2500 North Tyler Street in Little Rock (see this page for a map and directions). The historic former college and seminary now serves as the administrative and service center for the statewide diocese, with facilities used for meetings, retreats and other gatherings.

A discounted hotel rate of $59 per night for up to four people in a room is available June 25 or 26 at the nearby Guesthouse Inn, 301 South University Ave. Make your reservation by calling 1-888-387-4431 and asking for their "group rate."

Bring your co-workers and communicator friends to the luncheon, so they can enjoy APW camaraderie and see just a few of the benefits of APW membership. Come early or stay late to make a day of it in Little Rock, where you can see what’s new in the River Market district or enjoy your favorite museum, nightclub, theater and shopping attractions.
